Reflection: A definition of College Readiness by David Conley

In my own words, being college ready means that you are willing to do extra rather than to just homework and going to school. This includes reviewing what you have learned today in class and remember it. It also means studying early instead of studying at last minute right before the test. Being college ready means that you are prepared at all times in any situation in class. This includes gathering up school supplies so that you don’t have to constantly have to ask someone to get a piece of paper or borrowing a pencil from someone. Being college ready mean that you are actively listening in class and to stay focused to the speaker. Getting distracted may risk in losing important information that the professor or teacher has said about the particular subject.  I believe that paying attention in class is one my strengths that focuses on  college readiness. I like to jot down notes when I am watching clips that the teacher has brought in or when I am listening to the teacher even though the teacher doesn’t say to do so. I just like to be careful. Over the next few years, I would like to work on my organization skills. I tend to get messy often and my backpack seems to be stuck full of papers. Sometimes, I don’t even know what happened to my homework so I have to receive an F on the assignment. I would also like to improve my study habits. I tend to study at last minute so I receive low grades. I seem to be attracted to the computer often so I sometimes don’t even study for tests at all. I rely on the information I received in class.

  1. I'm curious about your note-taking habits. Do you keep and go over your notes later? Do you have specific strategies for taking lecture notes on the fly? If so, what are they?

  2. Well when i take notes, I like to test myself and remember it. I take notes in class when the teacher lectures us and mainly jot down important points. I also review my notes after school to make sure that I remember the information.
